FAQs
We’re lucky to have some great options for babies. After experiencing the US infant formula shortage in 2022, we all are aware of how important it is to have a variety of formula options and a consistent supply of it.
Kabrita is beloved by families around the globe because it is gentle by nature and easy for babies to digest. In fact, it is the #1 goat milk-based infant formula worldwide. What sets Kabrita apart is its commitment to high-quality ingredients and manufacturing processes, as well as a product that’s as close to breast milk as possible.
Kabrita is the first and only goat milk-based and European infant formula to meet all FDA requirements, which means it contains all the nutrients needed for a baby to grow and thrive in their first year of life. It also means that you can feel confident that the manufacturing and supply chain processes undergo regular inspections and that a consistent supply is available in the US.
Kabrita is also the first infant formula to receive all 3 Clean Label certifications. This means Kabrita has no hidden chemicals or contaminants.
While there is no exact substitute for human breast milk, the milk of both cows and goats has been used as a base to create infant formula for over 200 years.
Both cow- and goat milk-based commercial infant formulas meet all the nutritional requirements for human babies. The reason why many families worldwide opt for a goat milk-based infant formula is that it is easier for babies to digest. Goat milk protein is naturally more similar to human milk protein, and as a result, babies have fewer issues with discomfort.
Babies who consume both breast milk and Kabrita generally do very well digesting both.
Yes! Goat milk-based infant formula is a nutritionally complete option for a baby’s first year of life. It’s a popular option worldwide and for good reason–babies do really well on it! It’s only new to the US and Canada.
Historically, the American Academy of Pediatrics-approved options for infant formula were cow or soy milk-based. In 2023, the AAP endorsed goat milk-based infant formula as an equally appropriate and nutritionally complete option.
Kabrita meets both EU and US guidelines for folic acid and iron content and meets every US requirement for infant formula to be sold legally in the US. It is the first and only goat milk-based formula and the first European infant formula to meet all FDA requirements.
Seed oils get a bad rap because they’re a common ingredient in ultra-processed foods like potato chips. However, seed oils are GRAS certified (Generally Recognized as Safe) for infants with no adverse health outcomes.
Seed oils boost the nutrition profile of infant formula, bringing it closer to human milk. Human milk contains oleic acid; the only way to include oleic acid in infant formula is to use a seed oil.
This is why seed oils are used in the fat blends of every infant formula made in the US and in Europe. As no one plant-based oil has a comparable fatty acid profile to that of breast milk, infant formulas will contain a blend.
Nope. While some parents may have this concern before tasting Kabrita, our surveys show that consumers describe it as mild, smooth, and creamy without any off-flavors.
In fact, many of our consumers think Kabrita goat milk-based formula tastes better than cow milk-based formulas!
Some infant formulas contain partially broken down or pre-digested cow milk protein. And yes, they are probably a little easier to digest. Look for the words “partially hydrolyzed” in the ingredients. These products attempt to make cow milk protein more digestible for babies.
On the other hand, goat milk-based infant formula, like Kabrita, is naturally gentle. It naturally contains more easily digestible proteins because there is more beta-casein (like breast milk), more alpha S2 casein, and less of the alpha S1 casein–the predominant type of protein that’s found in cow milk, that’s harder to digest.
Goat milk casein proteins are more like human milk, producing softer and looser ‘curds’ when the protein is digested so babies have softer poop and less discomfort. Kabrita is naturally a “gentle formula.” There’s no need to partially hydrolyze or pre-digest the goat milk protein.
