Deborah's Experience Using Kabrita as a Gentle Option for Her Eczema-prone Son
Every parent’s feeding experience is as unique as their baby. While the journey may be easy for some, others may struggle. Real Parent Story is a series on our blog where we ask real parents to share their feeding stories. Whether you’re expecting or already have little one, we hope these stories can offer you insight into what worked (or didn’t work) for parents just like you.
Today we're sharing Deborah's story
By Dr. Deborah Fein, D.O.
As a doctor and a mom, I am a huge proponent of breastfeeding and feel strongly that women should be provided all the support they can get to breastfeed as long as they can. That being said, some moms cannot or choose to not nurse. Some moms nurse but need to supplement. All moms who breastfeed eventually wean their child.
When I was ready to wean my daughter at 12 months (several years ago), I chose pure goats milk because I have a family history of cow dairy sensitivity. It wasn’t easy – it meant that she needed to have some additional vitamin supplementation to make up for low folic acid and vitamin D, and I always had to carry a cooler when we went out.
A few months ago, just as I was getting ready to wean my son, I met the makers of the new goat milk formula: Kabrita Goat Milk Toddler Formula. I was very impressed with the formula they created. My son has eczema, which I know can be made worse with cow milk, and with the family history of cow milk sensitivity I didn’t want to take any chances.
Kabrita Goat Milk Toddler Formula was an easy choice to make – it’s a gentle goat milk protein base, supplemented with the nutrients he needs. Even better, it was an easy transition from breast milk for him, too.
As a psychiatrist specializing in women’s mental health, I often see patients who really struggle with the effects of a colicky baby. I like to teach them that what children eat and drink can have an enormous impact on their disposition. A baby who is sleeping better and feeling better will definitely result in a mom who is more rested and better able to navigate through the daily challenges of parenthood and an improved family dynamic.
