Making the Switch to Goat Milk Formula

Baby drinking formula from bottle

Here’s how to make the transition to Kabrita Goat Milk Formula as easy on your little one’s palate as it is on their digestive system.

Your child’s five senses are all established while they are in the womb – and while taste preferences may begin there, they continue to evolve throughout their life. Most toddlers transition to Kabrita’s mild, sweet taste with no problem, however, some might benefit from a gradual introduction. The reason is simple: one-year-olds have a more mature palate than infants.

Repeated exposure may be one key to success

Some children take to new foods readily and eagerly. But for others, introducing new tastes and textures, especially in the toddler years, may be more of a challenge. Some researchers have noted that acceptance of a new flavor in some children, up to five years old, is only seen after exposing them at least five to ten times!

Make a 5-day plan

Transitioning to Kabrita Goat Milk Formula over five days will help ensure that your little one takes to it successfully. You’ll want to combine their current formula or milk with Kabrita - gradually increasing the amount of Kabrita and decreasing the amount of current milk or formula used each day over five days. For 8 ounce bottles, you would simply double the quantities.

If you are currently breastfeeding and supplementing with formula or milk, continue breastfeeding as desired and follow the chart below.

Sometimes the introduction of a new food may cause changes in bowel movements, including hard or loose stool. Most often, bowel function will normalize as the body acclimates to the new food. However, there are many reasons a child may experience stool changes. It's always best to work with your healthcare provider to explore causes and solutions.

Transitions aren't always as smooth as we'd like them to be. If you have questions or need a bit more support while introducing Kabrita, chat with us, or email us at hello@kabrita.ca. We’d love to support you in this feeding transition!
