Behind the Label: Milk

Behind the Label: Milk

What is it?

The FDA’s Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) requires that a food that contains an ingredient or protein from a "major food allergen" be declared on the label.

What is a "major food allergen?"

The FALCPA identifies eight foods or food groups as the major food allergens. They are milk, eggs, fish (e.g., bass, flounder, cod), crustacean shellfish (e.g., crab, lobster, shrimp), tree nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, pecans), peanuts, wheat, and soybeans.

Why do we add it?

We add the statement “Allergen information: Milk” on Kabrita Goat Milk Formula and “Contains Milk” on our Kabrita Snack Puffs for a few reasons.

Most importantly, Kabrita Goat Milk Foods are not appropriate for children with a confirmed cow milk protein allergy (CMPA), as goat milk protein may also provoke an allergic reaction in children with CMPA.

Furthermore, our formula is produced in a facility that also produces cow milk products. Though the chance that the product may have come in contact with cow milk ingredients anywhere in the manufacturing process is remote, we protect our consumers from a possible allergic reaction by including this statement on our label.

If you are unsure whether your child’s symptoms stem from sensitivity or allergy, please consult with your healthcare provider.
